Covenant Schools Awarded Three GVSU Impact 30 Grants Totaling $50,000
For 30 years, Grand Valley State University has partnered with charter public schools to lead meaningful change in education. Through Impact 30, that legacy continues with direct investment in innovative, student-centered initiatives that improve learning experiences, strengthen school systems, and create ideas other schools can adapt.
Covenant Schools is proud to share that three Covenant Schools campuses were selected for Impact 30 grant awards this year, with funding totaling $50,000. Out of only 24 grants awarded statewide, Covenant Schools received three, including one of the highest grant awards available.
Covenant High School Southwest received a $30,000 grant, placing the campus among just ten schools statewide selected for the highest grant amount. The campus will create intentional spaces to support the 15 to 20 percent of students who are parents, helping them attend school more consistently and graduate more quickly. At the same time, their children will have a positive early learning environment, while student-parents develop skills to be even stronger caregivers.
Covenant High School Grand Rapids was awarded a $15,000 grant to launch an Art and Therapy Program in collaboration with Meaning in Colors, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering young adults. The program will provide weekly small-group art and therapy sessions for students, offering them opportunities to express themselves, work through challenges, and build confidence over the course of the academic year.
Covenant High School East received a $5,000 grant to implement a Peer Mediation Program. This initiative equips students with the skills to resolve conflicts among themselves, reducing staff time spent on discipline while creating a more positive and supportive school climate. Students gain leadership experience and learn strategies to handle disputes in constructive ways.
These awards reflect the creativity, vision, and commitment of Covenant Schools educators and staff, who continue to imagine new ways to support students and strengthen school communities. Each proposal grew out of real needs, thoughtful collaboration, and a deep belief in what is possible for Covenant Schools students.
Covenant Schools looks forward to sharing updates on these projects as they take shape. Individual spotlights will be released in the coming months to showcase the goals, impact, and stories behind each initiative.
We are grateful to Grand Valley State University and the Impact 30 Coordination Team for their continued partnership and investment in charter schools across Michigan. Updates on Covenant Schools Impact 30 projects will be shared throughout the remainder of the school year, with additional features planned in 2026.
