MEET OUR ADMINISTRATION

Principal Mr. LargeMARKEITH LARGE

After graduating from Ottawa Hills H.S., Mr. Large attended Jackson State University where he also interned and taught in Jackson, Mississippi schools. He then returned to Grand Rapids where he taught and ran both after-school summer programs in GRPS. He earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. He worked in a local charter school where he rose through the ranks to become the principal of William C. Abney Academy.

Mr. Markeith Large has the experience and education that we were looking for to lead Covenant House Academy- Grand Rapids. He has a passion for young people, especially those who struggle with learning. He is a communicator who knows how to connect with young people, their families, and the school community. He is rooted in the Grand Rapids community and comes from a family of educators.

Chris helped open Covenant House Academy Grand Rapids in July 2013 as the first teacher hired. As Covenant House Academy Grand Rapids continued to grow, Chris moved into various administrative roles and currently serves as the Director of State and Federal Programs, Compliance, and Operations.

Prior to his time at Covenant House Academy, Chris spent eight years teaching in Colorado. Chris is a Grand Rapids native attending GRPS through sixth grade before graduating from East Kentwood High School.

After high school he earned an Associates Degree from Grand Rapids Community College, before earning a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Psychology from Grand Valley State University. While in Colorado, Chris earned a Master of Education in Professional Leadership from Regis University in Denver, CO. When Chris is not at school, Chris and his wife, Amy, spend most of their time at the ice rink with their son, Vaughan, and daughter, Lily, who both play hockey.
